Schools' Head 2021 - Details
Entries are now open on BROE for the Schools Virtual Head of the River which will take place between Monday 22nd March and Sunday 4th April . Entries will remain open throughout this time. No restrictions on how many events may be entered but we would prefer that no one individual competed in the same category more than once and that ‘second’ crews really are just that! There are events in all kinds of boats for all junior classes. The main purpose of this event is to celebrate getting back on the water and going as fast as you can backwards!
The 2021 Schools Head race goes virtual over the full HRR course of 2112m. Boats row over a course longer than 2112m on any body of water and submit a gpx file from any gps recording app used on board. Time-team will send a link for every entry to submit the file and from this file time-team will extract the fastest 2112m segment. The results will show gps mapping data and times over the full Henley course.
Entries should be made in the usual way on BROE and fees paid online.
The running costs will be limited and all surplus fees will all go to ‘The Rowing Foundation’. The Rowing Foundation is a registered charity: its purpose is to promote the participation in rowing of young people (those under 18 or still in full time education) and the disabled of all ages.
The event is run under the auspices of British Rowing with these special conditions:
- All Participants in the race must be in full-time education in schools or sixth-form colleges, and must be 18 or younger on the day of the race.
- No composite entries are allowed or ‘flags of convenience’ crews please.
- All competitors must have attained their 13th birthday.
- A club should only enter a ‘2nd crew if a genuine first crew has been entered.
It is a condition of entry that all those taking part are competent swimmers. Schools and clubs should ensure all racing takes place in safe conditions and is COVID secure.
